Horse Sense 4-H club was started in 2002 by Sara Justice, Dianne Justice, and Cheryl Berwald. From a modest beginning with 4 club members, the club has grown to 17 members in 2012. Members have shown in all levels of 4-H competitions, from walk trot to Advanced Contest and State Fair participation. We have had State Fair Grand Champions and Reserve Grand Champions in Dressage anad Hunt Seat Equitation in past years, as well as many members that are successful at the county level.
Membership is open to Summit County Residents 9-18 years old, or 8 and in the 3rd grade. Members may join the club at any time, but in order to participate in the current year's events county and state level paperwork must be completed by March of that year. To be involved with Horse Sense, a member must be taking a horse project.
Not all of our members own horses. While many 4H members in the county own horses, most of our members lease horses. Leasing is not a requirement of 4-H, you may own your own horse.
